Rs 155 crore spent on 2024 assembly elections: J&K Government | KNO

Jammu, Mar 24 (KNO): The Jammu & Kashmir Government disclosed on Monday that an expenditure of Rs 155 crore was incurred for conducting the 2024 Assembly elections in the Union Territory. Responding to a cut motion raised by MLA Kupwara, Mir Muhammad Fayaz, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Minister in-charge of the Election Department, Javaid Ahmad Dar, informed the Assembly that Rs 150 crore was spent on conducting the 2014 Assembly elections. He further stated that the release of funds to clear liabilities from the recent elections is under active consideration by the Government. “The recently conducted Assembly elections incurred an expenditure of Rs 155 crore. The matter of releasing funds to clear liabilities is under active consideration,” the Minister said. The elections were held in three phases during September and October last year. The National Conference emerged as the single largest party, securing 42 seats, while its ally Congress won six seats. The BJP claimed 29 seats, and the Peoples Democratic Party secured three. Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference (PC), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) each won one seat, while independent candidates claimed seven seats—(KNO)
